Inguinal Hernia: Signs and Symptoms in Children and Adults

An inguinal hernia occurs when tissue pushes through a weak abdominal muscle wall. This can occur in childhood or adulthood.

The resulting bulge can be painful, especially when you cough, bend over or lift a heavy object.

Inguinal hernia signs and symptoms:

Some inguinal hernias don’t cause any symptoms. Inguinal hernia signs and symptoms include:

  • A bulge in the area on either side of your pubic bone
  • A burning, gurgling or aching sensation at the bulge
  • Pain or discomfort in your groin, especially when coughing or lifting
  • A heavy or dragging sensation in your groin
  • Pain and swelling around the testicles when the protruding intestine descends into the scrotum.

What to do:

You should be able to gently and easily push the hernia back into your abdomen when you’re lying down.

If not, applying an ice pack to the area may reduce the swelling enough so that the hernia slides in easily. Lying with your pelvis higher than your head also may help.

If you aren’t able to push the hernia in, the omentum or a loop of intestine can be trapped in the abdominal wall.
If any of these signs or symptoms occurs, call your doctor right away:

  • Nausea, vomiting or both
  • Fever
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Sudden pain that quickly intensifies
  • A hernia bulge that turns red, purple or dark

Signs and symptoms in children

Inguinal hernias in newborns and children result from a weakness in the abdominal wall that’s present at birth.

Sometimes the hernia may be visible only when an infant is crying, coughing or straining during a bowel movement.

In an older child, a hernia is likely to be more apparent when the child coughs, strains during a bowel movement or

stands for a long period of time

An inguinal hernia isn’t necessarily dangerous by itself. It doesn’t get better or go away on its own, however, and it can lead to life-threatening complications.

Your Nails May Be Giving You Warning Signs About Your Health, Don’t Ignore!

Nails not only add to the beauty of your hands and feet but also serve in conveying your health conditions or issues. They are not just plain scratching tools on our body; nails can reflect your health in their own language.
If you feel getting regular manicures/pedicures ensure beautiful and healthy nails, then I am afraid to say that you are wrong. Your nails may be trying to communicate with you with their breaking/spooning/pitting/etc. and you may be conveniently ignoring them till now. But after reading this article, you will start listening to your nails and be more wary of your health.

Dry, cracked or brittle nails.

There may be various causes of dry and brittle nails like overexposure to chemicals (as in cleaning agents), overuse of nail paint remover, dishwashing without gloves, ageing, or even living in low humidity conditions. However, if you notice your nails to be too brittle and without any of these factors mentioned above, then it is possible that you are suffering from hypothyroidism or a fungal infection.

Thick nails

Thick nails which don’t look natural and resemble claws are not considered strong or healthy. They, in fact, may be signalling you of a possible lung disease. Thick nails which are separated may be a sign of thyroid condition or psoriasis. Such type of nails may also be pointing towards a circulation problem or fungal infection.

Nail clubbing

Nail clubbing occurs when the ends of your fingers swell, resulting in curved, rounded or puffed up nails. They may be a symptom of a kidney or liver disorder, an inflammatory bowel condition or an even serious condition like AIDS.

Dark vertical bands on nails.

Pigmented vertical bands are quite common in dark-skinned people and may be simply harmless moles lying in the nail bed. However, if you notice new bands or bands changing colors, it may be a sign of a malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

Horizontal ridges on nails.

They may be caused due to trauma to the nails, but if you find them on more than one finger, it may be a trigger to a more serious health condition. If you are trying to recover from a serious illness, then your body may be utilising all its energy in fighting the disease instead of focussing on nails. In short, it is a way of your body drawing a line and pausing the nail growth when it has more important things to focus on.

Another probable cause of horizontal ridges may be a drug reaction, especially if you have had a recent chemotherapy.

Discolored nails

Healthy fingernails are pink with a hint of pinkish white half-moons at the base. Any other color or lack of color may signal a hidden health problem.

While dull nails mean a vitamin deficiency, green nails point towards a bacterial infection. White ones may be a sign of liver disease and red streaks on nail bed may be a heart valve infection warning. Nails with a tinge of blue may be a result of low oxygen levels in your blood.

Spoon nails

Spoon-shaped nails i.e. concave nails that are curved enough to hold a water drop without making it run off are a sign of iron deficiency. They may also be a sign of hemochromatosis (a liver condition where the body absorbs too much iron) or a heart disease. Hypothyroidism is another of those conditions that may cause your nails to be spoon-shaped.

Pitted nails

Mini holes or dips/dents in your nails may have resulted from the banging of your hands and will fade on their own. However, if they tend to be permanent, then it may be a sign of psoriasis or connective tissue disorder. They may also be a sign of alopecia areata (an autoimmune disorder that results in hair loss). If the pits seem to have formed a line across the nail in the middle portion, it may signal zinc deficiency.

Severely bitten nails.

Many people have a habit of biting nails, but excessive nail biting and constantly picking at the skin around the nails may be a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Sometimes, a psychiatric help is recommended in such cases while in other cases, a coat of a bitter tasting compound on the nails may help get rid of OCD.

Vertical ridges on nails.

Vertical ridges on nails are just a result of ageing, but they may also mean a possible thyroid disorder, stress, hormonal changes or diabetes.

Yellowish nails

Yellow nails usually occur with aging. However, in people who are young, they may be caused due to nail lacquers or acrylic nails. Regularly wearing acrylic nails or painting your nails with nail paints- especially dark shades– may result in staining your nails. Smoking is another of those factors that may render a yellowish tinge to the nails.

White spots on nails

Though usually considered to be a sign of calcium deficiency, white spots on nails can be caused due to a traumatic nail injury. An aggressive cuticle trim or a banged finger may result in white spots on nails. However, such spots fade away on their own when the nails grow, but if they continue to sit there, they may be trying to draw your attention towards a possible fungal infection.

No half moon on nails.

Symptoms of Onychocryptosis:

  • Pain along the nail margins
  • Wearing of tight foot wears worsening the pain
  • Bumping of the effected toe
  • Punctured tissues of the toe
  • Sensitivity to pressure placed even by bed sheets
  • Redness due to infection
  • Swelling
  • Drainage of pus
  • Watery discharge with blood

Causes of Ingrown Nail:

  • Wearing unsuitable footwear
  • Wearing shoes without enough toe-box room
  • Wearing tight stockings
  • Softening of nail plates
  • Toes being enclosed in shoes making them damp and wet
  • Trauma or injury to the nail
  • Inappropriate cutting of nail
  • Bad nail care
  • Too much skin around the nail

Prevention of Ingrown Nail:

  • Cutting nail straight across
  • Nail not being cut shorter than the flesh around it
  • Avoiding foot wears which are short, narrow or with small toe box
  • Toenail being stubbed
  • Avoiding dropping of things in the toenail
  • Wearing properly fitting shoes especially while working or playing

  • The treatment depends on the severity of the condition. It can range from soaking the nail and the surrounding flesh in an antibiotic to carrying out surgery.
  • In most of the cases, complications arise due to the infection caused in the feet by the bacteria rather than the embedded nail.
  • Applying iodine can prevent minor infections. However, they should not be used on deep wounds.
  • Mild cases can be treated by dipping the affected region in warm water and epsom salt mixture. Antiseptics available over the counter should be applied on them later.
  • Socks should be changed on daily basis and removed at night allowing the toes remain cool and dry.
  • Shoes should be kept dry and treated with anti-bacterial products to keep the growth of bacteria to bare minimum.
  • Serious cases require consultation with podiatrists, who are the specialists trained to diagnose and treat disorders of foot, ankle and lower leg.

Health Benefits Of Ginger To Our Body If We Eat It Every Day For 1 Month

You may know that ginger is a common ingredient in Asian and Indian cuisine, but did you know that it’s been used for centuries for its healing properties? Ginger has a long history of health benefits, including relief from nausea, digestive issues, and pain.
The most commonly used part of the plant for medicinal purposes is the root or underground stem, known as the rhizome. It can be consumed fresh, powdered, dried as a spice, or used in the form of an oil or as juice. If you don’t use ginger in your kitchen, here are 8 reasons why you might want to start!

1. Ginger Relieves Digestive Issues

The phenolic compounds in ginger have been shown to help relieve irritation in the gastrointestinal tract. They help to stimulate saliva and bile production while allowing food and fluids to move through the GI tract more smoothly. In a study of 24 healthy individuals, taking 1.2 grams of ginger powder before a meal accelerated emptying of the stomach, reducing indigestion by 50%.

2. Ginger Relieves Nausea

Drinking ginger tea or even consuming raw ginger is a common and safe home remedy for nausea, especially during cancer treatment or pregnancy and morning sickness. A review of 12 studies that included a total of 1,278 pregnant women found that 1.1-1.5 grams of ginger significantly reduced nausea.

3. Ginger Can Relieve Pain

A study conducted at the University of Georgia found that daily ginger supplementation reduced muscle pain by 25%. Ginger has also been found to reduce pain during menstrual cycles. Researchers also believe that ginger is effective at reducing the day-to-day progression of muscle pain.

4. Ginger Reduces Inflammation

Osteoarthritis is a common health problem that involves the degeneration of the joints in the body, causing joint pain and stiffness. In a trial of 247 people with osteoarthritis of the knee, those who took ginger extract had less pain and required less pain medication.

5. Ginger May Reduce Risk of Heart Disease

In a recent study involving participants with type 2 diabetes, researchers found that 2 grams of ginger powder each day lowered blood sugar and led to a 10% overall reduction over a period of 12 weeks. High blood sugar is a major risk factor for heart disease. With the effects of ginger on blood sugar, your risk of heart disease may be lowered by at least 10%.

6. Ginger May Lower Cholesterol Levels

A 45-day study involving 85 people with high cholesterol concluded that 3 grams of ginger powder each day caused significant reductions in cholesterol levels. Researchers believe that ginger can aid in lowering cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of heart disease.

7. Ginger May Have Anti-Cancer Properties

A substance in ginger known as 6-gingerol has been studied as an alternative treatment for several types of cancer. Research on this theory is still being conducted, but one study found that 2 grams of ginger extract each day significantly reduced pro-inflammatory signaling molecules in the colon.

8. Ginger May Improve Brain Function

Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation are two factors that can accelerate the aging process, and become a key driver of Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related cognitive impairments. Some studies suggest that the antioxidants and bioactive compounds in ginger can inhibit inflammatory responses that occur in the brain. In a study of 60 middle-aged women, the ginger extract was shown to improve reaction time and working memory, suggesting that ginger supports brain health in multiple ways.

7 things to avoid during that time of the month

Whilst growing up, many of us in Asia would have had our moms telling us the stuff to avoid when we are menstruating. Initially I thought it was just the Chinese but I’ve also come across Filipinos who are even more vigilant about these. So here I look at some of them based on my memory and experience. Do note that I’m not going to examine the medical evidences behind them so some of them are going to sound pretty ludicrous.

1. Avoid drinking tea

This is so true for me. When I was younger, I would sometimes deliberately down a few cups of tea just to have my menses come earlier. I remember I forgot all about the effects of this during a holiday and drank a whole mug, just to have a heavy flow at the most unsuitable time! Apparently, this is due to the tannins tea contains.

2. Avoid drinking cooling herbal tea

As a whole, Chinese believe that ladies should avoid taking cooling food and drinks during menstruation. So herbal tea and drinks like barley or chrysanthemum tea should be avoided.

3. Avoid eating certain fruits

Eating fruits like pineapples and water melons are considered a big no-no during that time of the month. Both fruits are considered “cooling” and pineapples in particular will increase the menstrual flow. I don’t particularly avoid eating these fruits during my period but I would eat them in moderation. However, I definitely avoided them during my pregnancy because I heard that women in the past would eat a lot of pineapples in order to have a miscarriage.

4. Avoid eating chilled fruits, desserts and drinks

I was always told to avoid eating or drinking anything cold by my mom. So ice creams, chilled desserts, canned drinks, etc are not to be taken at all. Apparently, they would cause cramps. As I don’t consume chilled stuff frequently, I cannot remember if they cause more cramps for me. Maybe someone else has some experience to share?

5. Avoid washing your hair

This was to me, really ridiculous because I have to wash my hair EVERY DAY! So telling me not to wash my hair even just on the first day of my period is like telling me not to step out of the house when I have my period. So although I heard that it would increase menstrual cramps, I’ve never taken heed of that advice and I say, I didn’t feel much of a difference really.

6. Avoid bathing in cold water

I think as a whole, anything cold is not good for women when they are menstruating. So besides avoiding cold food and drinks, one should also avoid bathing in cold water. I can’t say if this is true since I’ve always been bathing in warm water anyway.

7. Avoid exercising

Some women take it to the extreme and avoid all exercises when they are having their menses. From my understanding, we should only avoid strong, vigorous movement or exercise during menstruation. I’m not exactly sure of the reason but I remember my yoga instructor would tell us not to stretch ourselves too much or avoid certain poses if we’re having our periods. Apparently, those might aggravate cramps or cause heavier flow.

I’m sure there are more to avoid but these are based on what I can remember. But I’m certainly looking forward to reading what you’ve come across or what you avoid during that time of the month. So come on in and tell us!

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Cataracts?

When the lens of the eye becomes clouded, it is a condition known as cataracts. In patients with cataracts, proteins that are contained in the lens begin to break down, making the lens cloudy with an increase in age. Because cataracts develop very slowly, vision may not be affected right away and the condition may go unnoticed. Although cataracts are not always harmful, it is very likely that they will interfere with a patient's sight after several years. More than 90% of people at the age of 65 have a cataract. Half of all people between 75 and 85 years of have lost some sight as a result of cataracts. To combat misinformation, it is important to understand that overuse of the eyes does not result in cataracts and a cataract cannot spread from one eye to another.

What Causes Cataracts?

The lens of a healthy eye is normally clear to enable light to pass through effortlessly. The lens is made up of 65% water and has no blood supply. As we age, a lot of factors combine to cause cloudiness, toughness, and density in the lens. This occurs even though new cells are generated in the lens throughout our entire lives. In patients with cataracts, the lens is unable to send a clear image to the retina, where it is supposed to be processed and transmitted by the optic nerve to the brain. Cataracts are classified into three groups according to their location: posterior subcapsular, cortical, and nuclear. The following are causes of cataracts:
•    Age - This is the leading cause of cataracts.

•    Inborn - Although it is rare, some infants are born with cataracts or develop them in their first year of life.

•    Trauma - Injuries to the eye can also cause cataracts.

•    Secondary - Secondary causes of cataracts come as a result of other diseases or medications.

What Factors Contribute to Cataracts?

•    Obesity

•    Drinking heavily

•    Increase in age

•    Smoking

•    High blood pressure

•    History of eye injuries

•    Exposure to radiation from cancer treatments or X-rays

•    Diabetes

•    Family history of cataracts

•    Prolonged overexposure to sun

How to Diagnose Cataracts

Your eye doctor can diagnose cataracts during a dilated eye examination. Vision can also be checked in various light settings and patients may be given a prescription for updated glasses. A diagnosis of cataracts does not require invasive imaging tests, however a full eye examination is often necessary to check if anything else may be causing the symptoms. Cataracts signs and symptoms include:

•    Vision that is blurry, clouded, and dim

•    Poor vision at night

•    Extreme sensitivity to light

•    Seeing halos in lights

•    Frequent changes in glasses and contact lens prescriptions

•    Yellowing or fading of colors

•    Double vision

Prevention/Treatment

Although cataracts cannot be prevented, it has proven that avoiding overexposure to direct sunlight can minimize the chances of developing them. Smoking can also increase the risk of cataracts, so those who quit decrease their risk of the condition. The only way of removing cataracts completely is in a surgery where the clouded lens is replaced with an artificial one. This surgery reduces a person's need for eyeglasses and contacts as well. The artificial lenses vary in strength, so it is important to discuss the surgery with an eye doctor and find the one that best suits you. Requiring only local anesthesia, the cataract surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Doctors usually recommend removal of the cataract (s) if it becomes severe and interferes with daily life.

When to seek medical attention

If you see any changes in your vision, make a point of visiting the doctor. Immediately call the doctor if you start experiencing sudden changes in your vision like blurriness or double vision

8 Early Warning Signs of Lung Cancer You Should Know

Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women. The American Cancer Society projects that by the end of 2016, around 224,390 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed, and there will be about 158,080 deaths due to lung cancer. Men have a 1 in 14 chance of developing lung cancer, while a woman’s risk is 1 in 17. While smoking greatly increases the risk of developing lung cancer, these statistics include both smokers and non-smokers.
Lung cancer can be extremely serious and even fatal, but knowing the signs and symptoms is vital to catching it early enough to be treated.

1. A Cough That Won’t Subside

Coughing is usually associated with a cold or respiratory infection, these illnesses usually go away within a week or two. A persistent cough that won’t go away may be a sign of lung cancer, especially if the cough continues to get worse.

2. Changes in Cough

If you’re coughing more often and your cough feels deeper or has a hoarse sound, it’s time to visit a doctor. Other cough symptoms that may be associated with lung cancer are coughing up blood or more mucus than usual.

3. Breathing Difficulty

If lung cancer blocks or narrows an airway, or if fluid from a lung tumor begins to build up in the chest, you’ll experience shortness of breath. If you become winded by carrying groceries, walking short distances or performing normal household tasks, make an appointment with a health care professional.

4. Chest Pain

Lung cancer can lead to pain in the chest, shoulders or back. Whether the pain is sharp and consistent or dull and off-and-on, be sure to tell your doctor right away. Chest pain can be indicative of many health problems, including lung cancer.

5. Wheezing

When airways become blocked, restricted or inflamed, you’ll notice a wheezing or whistling sound when breathing. Wheezing can also be a sign of asthma or allergies, but it’s best to have a health care professional find out for sure.

6. Raspy, Hoarse Voice

If you begin to notice a change in your voice — a deeper, raspier or more hoarse tone — make an appointment with a doctor. Hoarseness can be caused by a cold, but if this symptom is persistent, it can be related to lung cancer.

7. Unexplained Weight Loss

Most of us gain and lose here and there, but an unexplained weight loss of ten pounds or more may be associated with health problems, including lung cancer. Cancer cells can use up energy in the body and even shift the way the body uses food for energy. If you haven’t done anything to lose weight and you’ve dropped a significant amount, there might be a problem.

8. Bone Pain

Lung cancer may not present many symptoms until it has spread. Cancer that has spread to the bones may produce pain in the back or in other areas of the body. It may also worsen at night. Lung cancer is also associated with shoulder, arm or neck pain. If you’re experiencing something more than minor aches, it’s time to consult a professional.

10 Ways To Get Rid Of Freckles On Face Fast And Naturally

Some people like freckles. Some people hate them. Many people think they’re cute – on somebody else – and want to get rid of their own freckles

What are freckles? Freckles are groups of skin cells (keratinocytes) that contain melanin, the brown skin pigment. The skin cells are otherwise perfectly normal, so the spots are flat and cannot be felt. They do not cause a lump. The melanin is produced by a specialized cell called a melanocyte. Exposure to sunlight stimulates the melanocyte to increase the amount of melanin it makes and the pigment seeps out and is picked up by the surrounding skin cells. That’s why the color appears in spots, instead of uniformly across the skin. Areas that lack melanocytes do not freckle. Since people generally get more sun exposure in the summer, they tend to freckle more at that time. During the winter the spots may disappear entirely. They also tend to disappear as we age. Light skinned people generally get more freckles than people with darker complexions. Redheads and blondes are the most freckle prone. But if your parents had freckles, then you are going to have them, too.

How To Get Rid Of Freckles On The Face:

1.) Prevent The Freckles From Appearing
This is probably the most effective way to eliminate freckles. Protect your skin from the sun. Wear hats with wide brims so your face is in shadow and wear long sleeved shirts and long pants. It’s not just your face you need to protect. Try to avoid going outside when the sun is high in the sky since this is the time when you get the most uv radiation. If you must go out, try to stay in the shade as much as possible. And wear sunscreens with SPF 50 – all the time, every time.

2.) Lemon Juice To Bleach Freckles Away
Lemon juice is one of the best natural bleaches. The citric acid in the juice lightens the skin. Using the juice from fresh squeezed lemons or the pre-squeezed variety you can buy in a bottle, gently apply the juice onto the freckled areas. Be very careful to keep the juice out of your eyes. Leave the juice on for ten to fifteen minutes and then wash off with warm water. You will have to do this twice a day for several weeks before the freckles disappear.

Horseradish and onion juice are also lightening agents, but less pleasant to use. You can rub slices of red onion on the freckled areas daily. All of these treatments can cause skin irritation. If your face turns red and burns after a treatment, stop using that method.

3.) Sour Cream Facial Peels

Sour cream contains lactic acid, which a very gentle peeling agent. Apply the sour cream to the freckled areas like a mask and leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes. Then wipe it off with a soft cloth and rinse with cool water. Repeat this daily for several weeks.

4.) Fruit Flavored Facial Peels

You can also use mashed strawberries and kiwi or cucumbers for a facial mask that will cause a peel. The natural agents in the fruit are very gentle to the skin. The layer of skin underneath will be lighter in color.

Banana mashed with mint leaves provides you with salicylic acid in the banana, which gives you a natural peel. B vitamins and folate in the mint are lightening agents and in addition, mint contains antioxidants and vitamins C and A, providing extra nutrition for your skin.
5.) Moisturizing Honey And Lemon Juice

Honey is a humectant, a substance that holds water and adds moisture to whatever it is applied. It also contains enzymes that are natural lightening agents. Combined with lemon juice, this is a very effective method to get rid of freckles permanently. If you mix the honey and lemon with wheat germ, you can make a paste that you leave on for fifteen minutes, then rinse off with cool water. The honey method should be used every other day.

6.) Even Out The Skin Color

Hide the freckles by darkening the skin in between them naturally. Castor oil, that old home remedy for everything from constipation to upset stomach, is excellent for adding a light tan color to the skin. It’s harmless, so you can apply it to your face at night before bed and wash it off in the morning. Only a few applications will get rid of freckles quickly.

7.) Add Nutrients To Your Skin While Lightening Freckles

Vitamin E oil not only fades freckles fast, it contains nutrients that seep into your skin and keep it healthy. Like castor oil, you can apply it at bedtime and leave it on overnight. Wash it off in the morning and watch your face glow.

8.) A Sake Facial Mask Works Fast
Sake, a Japanese wine made from rice, contains kojic acid, which inhibits the production of melanin in the skin. This causes the freckles to fade away fast, since skin cell turnover rate is about three weeks. In other words, new skin cells from the lowest layer of the skin replace the ones in the layers above them until they die and are sloughed off in a few weeks. If you can prevent the lowest layer of cells from picking up a lot of melanin, the freckles will be gone soon. Mixing the sake with honey, yogurt and oatmeal powder produces a paste that you can apply and leave on for about 30 minutes. Then wash off. The antioxidants in the paste are good for your skin as well.

9.) Eating Your Way To Fewer Freckles

Vitamin C (citric acid) in your diet helps lighten your skin, just as it does when you apply it to your face. If your skin is too sensitive for lemon juice, then make sure you eat a lot of citrus fruit. Other foods that contain a lot of vitamin C are kiwi, tomatoes, bell peppers, berries and papayas.

10.) Commercial Bleaching Creams With Natural Ingredients

Over-the-counter skin whitening creams containing hydroquinone and oxybenzone are very effective but they are also very likely to cause damage to the skin. Natural ingredients such as bearberry, aloe, mulberry, kojic acid, licorice extract and other herbs are soothing to the skin and lighten the freckles without danger. Look at the ingredients when you buy and make sure that there are no precautions listed. And use the creams as directed.

Since skin turnover takes several weeks, there is no way to get rid of freckles overnight. But there are many quick, natural and safe methods to eliminate those pesky spots from your nose. If you develop any reaction to these natural remedies, stop the treatment immediately and consult your doctor. While natural ingredients generally are safe, some people can be sensitive to them. If you’re allergic to citrus or kiwis or papayas, don’t put them on your skin. Don’t be in a rush to eliminate those harmless spots. Protect your skin and be safe.

They Itch You And They Bleed? Here Is How to Treat and Heal the Hemorrhoids Symptoms Naturally

They Itch You And They Bleed? Here Is How to Treat and Heal the Symptoms of Hemorrhoids Naturally

Hemorrhoids are likely to occur in up to seventy-five percent of the population of both the younger and older populations. This condition occurs when veins become swollen in the anus and become painful and problematic over time. They can cause many complications that are both painful and irritating, causing an individual to seek medical solutions. Fortunately, there are several natural and therapeutic options for treating the hemorrhoids symptoms. Treating hemorrhoids naturally can be accomplished with home remedies that include a combination of mineral, herbs, and vitamins.

What Are Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins that are located in the smooth muscle of the anus or rectal area. Most internal hemorrhoids often go unnoticed and resolve on their own because they do not cause any protrusion and inflammation. However, external hemorrhoids are more painful and severe that can become problematic over time. The symptoms of hemorrhoids can be chronic and debilitating with external hemorrhoids being more susceptible to irritation. The most common hemorrhoids symptoms that indicates the presence of hemorrhoids is bleeding after a bowel movement.
This painful condition is formed when there is an increase in the amount of pressure in the rectum. When the rectal vein is swollen, it may cause the skin to stretch, bulge, and swell. While internal hemorrhoids rarely cause discomfort, external hemorrhoids create a protrusion of skin that can easily be irritated. When the tissue is irritated during a bowel movement, they can cause pain, itching, swelling, and bleeding. These pillow-like clusters of swollen veins usually affect at least half of the population at age 30 and older.

Causes of Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoid swelling occurs when more pressure is placed on the small vessels of swollen veins, which causes pain. There are several symptoms associated with this condition that occur during, before, and after a bowel movement. This condition is generally caused by other health conditions like chronic diarrhea or constipation, or obesity. Additionally, when an individual has a sedentary lifestyle or strains during bowel movements, more pressure is placed on the area. It is also thought that pregnancy may cause hemorrhoids to form due to the amount of pressure exerted.

There are some other variables that affect the formation of hemorrhoids that are associated with diet. When the body is depleted of nutrients it needs to break down food and absorb food, many problems are created. A diet that lacks fiber may lead to diarrhea, constipation, and other digestive issues that can lead to hemorrhoid formation. According to researchers at the Harvard Medical School, “patients suffering from hemorrhoids usually have a higher resting anal canal tone.” This causes issues when the smooth muscle of the anal canal is tighter than average producing excessive straining.

Hemorrhoids Symptoms

There are a wide range of symptoms that can be easily identified. Hemorrhoids generally are irritated during a bowel movement, so one of the most common signs is bleeding. External hemorrhoids can turn into lumps that cause physical pain and discomfort. Once the swelling begins, it can cause a combination of symptoms that are uncomfortable. Some of the most common hemorrhoids symptoms include:

* Extreme pain or discomfort in the anal/renal area
* Itching in the anal area
* One or many lumps near the anus (thrombosed hemorrhoid)
* Painless bleeding during bowel movements
* Swelling and around the anus

Herbal Remedies for Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids occur in 1 out of 25 people and generally affect the older population but can affect young individuals too. There are many herbs, vitamins, and minerals that can be consumed to treat hemorrhoids in any stage or condition. Some herbs have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties among promoting the healing process that prevents the onset of hemorrhoids. Astringent herbs may help prevent swelling and clotting while reducing bleeding and repair damaged tissue in the affected areas. Herbs that can act on blood vessels to preventing the symptoms and shrink the tissues include:
Apple Cider Vinegar: Natural apple cider vinegar can be treated with a cotton ball soaked in this substance that can provide instant relief

Horse Chestnut: Aesculus hippocastanum, the seeds of this plant contain active ingredient such as saponins and tannins that promote healing

Aloe Vera: Aloe barbadensis, is a plant high in nutrients that can heal cells, stop inflammation with its cleansing and cooling gel

Oak: Quercus spp., the bark can be used as a concoction to treat hemorrhoids due to its active ingredients ellagitannins, catechins and proanthocyanidins

Olive Oil: This substance can be consumed in small amounts with meals to strengthen vessels to prevent hemorrhoid formation

Probiotics: This can be found in supplement form and is the “friendly” bacteria, lactobacillus and bifidus, that is good for healing

Psyllium Husk: Plantago Psyllium, is full of fiber that can make bowel movements softer and easier to pass and stimulate cellular healing

Tea Tree Oil: Also known as melaleuca oil, can be applied with cotton to the area affected to reduce the inflammation and growth

Witch Hazel: Hamamelis virginiana, this herb has been used medicinally to treat circulation disorders with astringent effects

Natural Hemorrhoids Treatments

Steeping the ingredients in tea can create a powerful concoction to be added to a cold compress. The cold compress can help stop bleeding and even clean the areas affected for instant relief. The ingredients can also be made into a tea to be consumed to stimulate cellular healing internally. Cleaning the affected area with a solution of these ingredients can reduce pain and itching right away. Additionally, with a diet full of fresh fruits, vegetables, and fibers, the occurrence of hemorrhoids decreases drastically.

There are many methods to utilize herbal remedies to treat both internal and external hemorrhoids and prevent their occurrence. Using a cold compress on hemorrhoids can lessen the pain and reduce the risk of inflammation or infection. Accordingly, soaking in a bath of Epsom salt and an herbal substance can cleanse and heal the affected areas. In fact, dryness can irritate hemorrhoids, which is why it is important to stay hydrated with herbal teas. When a combination of herbs and different methods are used, hemorrhoids can be healed naturally and thoroughly.

Learn To Identify The Signs And Symptoms Of High Cholesterol

Know your Cholesterol Levels

Cholesterol is basically a type of fat, or lipids as we know them, present in the blood itself. The “high cholesterol” content in certain foods and those attained by artificial means makes the body cholesterol rise above normal, and we face certain health problems. This abnormal increase in the cholesterol levels often lead to atherosclerosis – a problem wherein arteries get hardened, which in turn lead to cardiac arrests, stroke, and such other terminal heart problems.

Hence, it is important for all of us to be aware of the following basic facts regarding cholesterol:

  • High cholesterol is said to have occurred in conditions wherein the count is 240 or above.
  • The cholesterol level is said to be just on the edge or “borderline” when the count is between 200 and 239.
  • The best and ideal condition is when your cholesterol count is just 200. So, try achieving this perfect figure to keep yourself healthiest.

Signs and Symptoms of High Cholesterol

As found by scientific reports and medical studies, high cholesterol levels or “hypercholesterolemia” does not really occur accompanied with distinct signs and symptoms. Those symptoms may be due to some other disease as well; however, if you have encountered such problems at all, do not overlook them as possible signs of increasing cholesterol levels. Some of such signs and symptoms include:

  • Obesity – Gain in weight is mostly the root cause to most of the health problems, and rising cholesterol levels are no exception to this. Thus weight gain is one of the symptoms of high cholesterol levels.
  • One may experience pain in the chest, breathing difficulties, and such other respiratory organ disorders or problems as part of the effects of high cholesterol.
  • Vomiting tendency, nauseous feelings, digestion problems, dizziness, and weakness are often reported to have been caused to patients suffering from high cholesterol levels.
  • Often rise in the cholesterol content of the body may cause joint and back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, discomfort in body parts, jaw, etc.

It is thus very important to have a thorough checkup of your cholesterol levels at regular intervals, and keep a tab on the figures that suggest the content in your body. You should not ignore even the slightest hint of high cholesterol or possibilities of such a problem as it can further lead to major health issues.

HERPES SYMPTOMS IN MEN AND SIGNS OF HERPES.

Herpes symptoms in men – Herpes is a viral disease that is chiefly caused by the Herpes simplex virus. The virus is usually in the sensory ganglions of the body. It causes disease when reactivated by certain factors which can be either externally or internally. The internally factors that can make it to replicate include use of immunosuppressant medications or diseases that lower the body’s immunity. Herpes symptoms in men is a clear indication that the virus is no longer latent; it is a justification that the immunity of a person is somehow altered.  The external factors may include exposure to excess sunlight, social stress.
TYPES OF HERPES SYMPTOMS IN MEN AND THE DISEASE THEY CAUSE ON MEN.

The Herpes symptoms in men is divided into two groups. There is the HSV 1. This predominantly affects parts above the abdomen. Its latency normally takes place in the sensory nerves around the facial region where it will be waiting for reactivation to cause disease. When reactivated it normally infects parts like the throat, eyes and lips.
Herpes simplex virus 2 is usually pathogenic in the anatomical areas below the abdomen. Its latency is restricted below the waist and when reactivated it infects the genitals and its surrounding.

TYPES OF HERPES SIMPLEX ON MEN

Herpes symptoms in men vary depending on the region affected. As a result, these manifestations were classified and given names so that it could be easy to notice that it is herpes despite the different appearance of the different affected regions.
Herpes Simplex virus 1 causes Herpes Labialis. This is a blister like appearance that manifests itself at the lower lip of the infected person. It is normally painful and appears during cold seasons normally. Sore throat could also mark this infection. This can also affect eyes, eye herpes, ear herpes and Neonatal Herpes.

Herpes Simplex Virus 2 on other hand causes genital herpes. These involve formation of inflamed papules around the genitalia and are so painful. On delivery, the disease can be passed from the mother to the Child and cause neonatal herpes. It can cause meningitis to the newborn if no quick intervention is taken. Herpes simplex disease is not just like any other, it must be triggered for it to infect a person. People who are immune compromised usually have frequent attacks of this disease. Herpes disease is named according to the region infected but the treatment is the same in all regions infected.
TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF HERPES SIMPLEX.

The management of Herpes greatly depends on the area affected and severity of the disease. Sometimes it is self limiting if the triggering factor happens to decline. The self limiting situations include times when the disease is precipitated by change of seasons so when the season is over, the disease also gets finished.

You can also use Antiviral agents. This will help to heal through counter attacking the process of replication of the virus. Once the virus replication has been stopped, the virus becomes small in number and the body’s immune system finishes the remaining part thus facilitating the healing process. Acyclovir and Val acyclovir are the major agents that are used in the treatment of this condition.

Dietary supplements like Zinc and Lysine supplements can also promote the healing process of this disease.  The use of bee products as well as aloe Vera has played a good role in the recovery of people with Herpes disease. The use of topical agents to treat the ulcers and inflamed papules can also be helpful to the infected people. It is good to have the topical forms of acyclovir because it works faster and efficient than any other drug.

TRANSMISSION AND PREVENTION.

For HSV 1, you will need to avoid kissing carelessly. This can be transmitted through the fluid of the lesions on the lips. Herpes labialis has been reported to be transmitted through sharing drinking bottles of water or any drink. It is advisable that you be carefully on who you share or kiss.
For HSV 2, it can be transmitted through sexually intercourse with a n infected person. Always wear a condom when having sex. The disease can also be passed from mother to child during birth therefore it’s good to screen mother before delivery.
In general, Herpes symptoms and in men are as a result of viral reactivation. If not severe, it is usually self-limiting but if severe it needs medical attention. Herpes Diagnosis can be made either through clinical observations or through skin biopsy or polymerase chain reaction.
