WARNING: The Earliest Signs of Cancer Appear on Your Skin

Early signs of cancer can be so subtle that most people simply disregard them as common aches and pains. According to a British study, published in PlosOne, even minor health problems can sometimes indicate a more serious condition. Unfortunately, most people write these warning signs off, says study author Katriina Whitaker, a senior research fellow from University College London. Although these symptoms won’t indicate cancer for most, they still can for some; therefore a visit to the doctor could be life-saving.

EARLY SIGNS OF CANCER APPEAR ON YOUR SKIN
1. Lump or bumps

Changes in the lymphatic system, including cancer onset, are normally manifested by enlarged lymph nodes. Any lump on your body requires immediate medical attention.

2. Excessive bruising or bleeding that won’t stop

Abnormal function of the red blood cells and platelets is normally a sign of leukemia. In fact, red blood cell ability to carry oxygen is compromised as leukemia cells take over, which leads to blood clotting.

3. Changes in fingernails

Every unusual change in the fingernails that hasn’t been caused by physical trauma can indicate several types of cancer. Skin cancer is normally manifested by a brown or black streak or dot under the nail, whereas lung cancer is signaled by nail clubbing, which is enlargement of the ends of the fingers with nails that curve down over the tips. Even liver cancer can sometimes be indicated by pale or white nails.

4. A red, sore, or swollen breast
Inflammatory breast cancer is normally manifested by red, sore and/or swollen breasts. Any change in your breast appearance asks for immediate medical examination.

5. Changes in nipples

As reported by the majority of breast cancer patients, the earliest sign of breast cancer they noticed before being diagnosed was a nipple that began to appear flattened, inverted, or turned sideways.

6. Facial swelling

Facial swelling can be an indicator of lung cancer. This is due to the fact that small cell lung tumors normally block blood vessels in the chest, thus preventing free blood flow from your head and face. Many lung cancer patients have had puffiness, swelling, or redness in the face.

7. A sore that doesn’t heal, becomes crusty, or bleeds easily

Different types of skin cancer including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma are normally indicated by unusual changes on your skin.
